Ryan Lowy joins the newsroom eager to tell meaningful stories and connect with the community.
Ryan is a Penn State student double-majoring in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish, with a minor in Political Science. He currently works as a multimedia journalist and anchor for the Centre County Report, Penn State's award-winning student-run newscast, where he covers local news, government and community issues. He has also completed newsroom internships at WGAL-TV, covering state politics and local news in the Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York market, and WTAJ-TV, covering local news in the Johnstown-Altoona-State College market.
On campus, Ryan serves as president of Penn State Network Television (PSNtv), one of the largest student-run television stations in the country. He helps oversee the station's seven professionally produced live shows and more than 325 active members, trains new members and supervises studio and control room operations while also contributing both on-air and behind the scenes.
Ryan also created At The Desk, a politics and crime roundtable show for PSNtv inspired by NBC's Meet the Press. As producer and host, he led six hours of live election coverage during the 2024 presidential election, including roundtable analysis with political commentators and interviews with Pennsylvania House Speaker Joanna E. McClinton and State College Mayor Ezra Nanes.
His journalism experience takes him beyond the United States. Ryan reported in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as part of Penn State's international reporting program, where he produced a story on Argentina's Jewish community and served as a Spanish-language translator for fellow student journalists. He has also lived and studied abroad in Mexico and Spain.
Outside the newsroom, Ryan enjoys reading, going for runs, binge-watching Netflix and keeping up with politics. He's a huge New York Yankees and Penn State football fan. We Are!

During the summer of 2026, Ryan interned at Hearst Television's WGAL News 8, where he worked alongside veteran political reporter Tom Lehman covering Pennsylvania state government. Reporting from the Pennsylvania State Capitol, he contributed to coverage of the legality of skill games, marijuana legalization efforts and the passage of the Commonwealth's 2026 state budget.
Ryan created At The Desk. Modeled after NBC's Meet the Press and ABC's This Week, the show became the first in Penn State history to produce a fully student-run live election program during the 2024 presidential election. Ryan served as the show's creator, executive producer and host, leading six hours of live election coverage that featured roundtable analysis with political commentators and interviews with Pennsylvania House Speaker Joanna E. McClinton and State College Mayor Ezra Nanes.

Ryan is the first bilingual member of his family, having lived in Puebla, Mexico and Andalucía, Spain. Ryan has completed exchange programs at Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla and Universidad de Cádiz.
In March, 2026, Ryan traveled with 17 other members of Penn State’s Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications to Argentina for an international reporting project. He acted as a bilingual interpreter and digital journalist for a recorded news production.

Ryan has broadcasted over 250+ high school sporting events throughout New Jersey via D1 Media Pro, a sub affiliate of the NFHS Network, and Livingston Television (LTV), Livingston (NJ)’s local TV station. Ryan has broadcasted state championships and rivalry matchups at famous sporting venues like The Prudential Center (Newark, NJ), Yogi Berra Stadium (Little Falls, NJ), and SHI Stadium (Piscataway, NJ).
In 2023, Ryan received the “Excellence in Sports Coverage” Award from West Orange High School and a broadcast scholarship funded by the “BIG L” club, a booster club for Livingston High School athletics.At Penn State, Ryan broadcasts athletic events for “The Lion,” a local FM radio station (90.7 FM) at State College. He has broadcasted two Penn State football games, including a road game at Michigan State and an in-state rivalry against Villanova.
